Yao Zi
作为80后的姚子有一种酷酷的乐观派风范。他在大学里做过行为、装置、图片、录像，但他其实是国画系的。在他的同学都迷恋于唐装折扇才子佳人的时候，姚子穿的就像来自布鲁克林的说唱明星；在他的同学还在为毕业创作发愁的时候，姚子则已经呆在湖南卫视节目策划的位子上了。这个特立独行的年轻人有着一个异样的思维系统，他的作品在极其轻松之余会把你带入一种严谨而又阴气颇深的思绪氛围之中。
姚子最近的作品《西安活宝》讲述的是一个世俗现实与文化理想、个人记忆与集体记忆调配糅合后的奇怪故事。故事在任何时候都是“未完待续”的，故事线索的发展完全依赖于他本人下一刻所受信息的影响。与其说这一过程是十分清晰的勾勒出当下中国社会与文化景观的一个“在路上”的特质，倒不如说是在这一代青年人身上有着一种时刻准备“调停”与“应急”的状态。在故事的第一集中，他把自己幼年丧父的经历与热门的“华南虎风波”事件联系起来用“寻找父亲”的方式将自我记忆与社会主义记忆进行了一个浪漫的勾兑，打造了一个集“社会话题”、自身体验、知识背景与环境现实的非常规叙事方式。这样的一种综合叙事能力超越了纯粹的另类青年视角，以一种十足真诚的想象包容了各类碎片式的环境与信息。这样一种日志式的联想与记录让我想起了列维·斯特劳斯的游记。看似奇妙的想像，本身就是对想象的终结；看似对信息的认真，本身就是对信息的对抗。姚子对自己与环境的真诚已到了一个近乎苛刻的地步。但当你见到他本人时你绝对不会认为他是Vincent van Gogh，而很有可能把他看作Andy Warhol，实际上他读的书可能比两者都多一些。
As an artist born in 1980s, Yao Zi bears a sort of optimistic pattern. Majoring traditional Chinese painting during his stay in college, he has surprisingly dealt with performance, installation, picture and video. While his classmates were infatuated with the Tang style dress, folding fans, etc., he dressed himself like a rap star coming from Brooklyn; while his classmates were still anxious about their graduation creations, he has already been in the position of program planning in Hunan TV Station. This unusual young man has a peculiar thought system and his works can bring you into a precise thinking atmosphere at the time of enjoying an easy occasion.
Xi’an Living Treasure, Yao Zi’s latest works, tells a strange story that blends the reality with cultural ideal and individual memory with collective memory. The story keeps in a state of “To be continued” at any time and the development of the story completely depends on the impact of information on him in the following. The youth of this generation bears a kind of state ready for “intermediation” and “emergency” at any time rather than that this process clearly outlines the character of “on the road” of current Chinese society and cultural sights. In the first season of the story, he links the experience of losing father at his childhood up with the currently heat topic “South China Tiger Incident” and uses the manner of “looking for his father” to have a romantic blending of the individual and collective memories, creating an unusual narration method which integrates social topics, personal experience, knowledge background with environmental reality. The comprehensive narration capability of this kind transcends the pure perspective of the youth with unusual personalities and uses a completely sincere imagination to contain various fragmental environment and information. This journal association and record remind me of Levi-Strauss’s travel notes. The imagination itself that seems to be rummy is the terminal of imagination; it seems to be serious to the information, and itself is the rivalry to the information. Yao Zi’s sincerity to himself and environment has come to a approximately rigorous state, but when you meet him, you will never think he is Vincent van Gogh, instead you may take him as Andy Warhol. Actually the number of books he has read is more than that of the both.
