Qin Zanjun

秦赞军画的是油画还是国画?不同的人会给出不同的答案。油彩和画布是油画材料,但是技法却参照了中国画的一些哲学:他首先让稀释的油彩在画布上面自由流淌、生发,他并不想去控制它们的形状,而是放纵它们的任性。接着,艺术家会从它们肆意游走的结局里去发现,去因势利导。艺术家仿佛是他画面的学生,而不是家长。他想跟他制造的“自由”去协商,他拿他的人生阅历和知识储备来和他的画面谈判。
当然,偶尔他也会“管教”它们的调皮。有时候也会采取计划式的经营办法。在需要的时候,他会使用他的控制权。
秦赞军在接受科班油画训练之前,自幼酷爱国画。我们这一百多年以来,给原来不叫“国画”的这种东西附加了太多的政治内涵。有时候它被当成自尊的象征,有时候又成为落后的罪证。在亡命天涯之后,在上个世纪末的政治大气候改变之后,忽然之间又成为一种选择。
我们很难判断秦赞军的选择是“自然”的还是“人工”的,里面涉及到教育、意识形态、世界政治经济学,也交织着恋爱、成长、青春和童年。也许画画是一种被规训的过程,也同时是无意间地去规训的过程。
油画,在这里成为一层表皮。油画只是一个面具,或者,只是一个面子。
Is the works drawn by Qin Zanjun oil painting or traditional Chinese painting? Different people may have different answers. The greasepaint and canvas are materials for oil painting, but the skill refers to some philosophies of Chinese painting. When drawing, he firstly lets the diluents greasepaint freely flow on the canvas without intention to control its shapes. Then, artists will come to seek and guide while the greasepaint freely flows on the canvas. In this way, artist seems to be the student of his painting rather than its parent. He wants to negotiate with the “freedom” that he made and he will use his life experience and knowledge reserve to negotiate with his painting.
Sometimes he will “teach” their naughtiness and sometimes he will adopt planned management method. If necessary, he will use his control right.
Before accepting regular professional oil painting training, Qin Zanjun was keen on traditional Chinese painting when he was a child. For a hundred years, we added too much political connotation to oil painting, which was not called the oil painting at that time. Occasionally, it acts as the symbol of self-esteem or the evidence of backwardness. Oil painting suddenly became a choice until the change of political climate at the end of last century.
It is hard for us to judge that Qin Zanjun’s choice is either “natural” or “artificial”. His choice involves education, ideology, world politics & economics and interweaves with love, growth, youth and childhood. Probably that drawing is a disciplined process and meanwhile a process to be disciplined unconsciously.
The oil painting under his brush then becomes a layer of cuticle. Oil painting is only a mask, or it is just face.
